Arunodaya Charitable Trust (ACT), was founded in 1990, and is a registered, non-profit, public, non-denominational, medical, welfare trust that works in the field of curable blindness. Our primary objective is to restore the sight of the poor & needy. Over 9,92,358 poor and needy patients have been treated. Over 24,423 sight restoring surgeries have been successfully undertaken.

Arunodaya Deseret Eye Hospital (ADEH), was inaugurated on 1st January, 2005. ADEH is a state of the art tertiary eye care facility, the first of its kind in New Gurgaon town-ship, has in its 5 years of operations reached out to over 1,67,164 needy patients.

The mission of ADEH is to be an institute of excellence in eye care services. It endeavors to provide world class treatment, to all sections of our society, with a focus on reversing the tide of curable blindness, in its area of operations in Gurgaon and surrounding villages.

ADEH is open on all 7 days (including Sundays) from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

* Dr. Arun Sethi - Refractive Surgery & General ophthalmology
Monday & Wednesday, Friday (11 am to 3 pm)

* Dr. Reena Sethi - Cataract Surgery (Phacoemulsification)
Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday (11 am to 3 pm)

* Consultants - Glaucoma Squint Treatment Paediatric Ophthalmology Retina
Clinic Daily (9 am to 5:30 pm)

* Community Ophthalmology / Mobile Eye Care Services---
Daily (9 am to 5 pm): Dr. Arun Mehra / Dr. Sunil Kumar

ADEH is supported by an active mobile eye care team, which organizes eye care camps, in association with local villages / slums, to provide good quality eye care services, within a radius of 75 kms.

ADEH follows a cross subsidy model, wherein nearly 70 % of the out patients are treated free or at a nominal charge, targeted at the economically weaker sections from the rural areas of Haryana. The balance 30% helps the institution on revenues, for operational expenditure. This way, ADEH is trying to contribute affectively, in the control of avoidable blindness, in Gurgaon.

In the underprivileged and rural communities, ACT is working at the following levels:
a. Community outreach services services includes holding eye camps, where apart from providing detailed eye check ups, refractions are done and glasses provided, patients requiring cataract removal and other procedures, are referred / transported to the base hospital – ADEH.

This approach is very effective, as it is different from the "cataract centric" approach followed by most other institutions.

b. School screening programmes:
A novel programme of vision screening for school children has been initiated for early of detection of refractive errors and other eye problems. Children with defective vision are identified in no time through a specially designed 'E' type vision card which is provided to the teachers in advance. ACT's team then does the necessary and detailed eye check up at the school premises and provides subsidized spectacles for the children.

c. Health education:
To build up awareness about eye care issues, hygiene etc in the rural masses through, village meetings, etc.

The impact of ACT's services can be assessed from the number of needy poor patients, who are the beneficiaries of its services:

Statistics Till November, 2010
* Total number of patients treated, up to June, 2011 : 9,92,358
* Total number of patients treated, in June, 2011 : 39,789
* Patients who received eye care treatment in June, 2011 : 2,441
* Total number of patients operated upon, up to June, 2011 : 24,423
* Number of spectacles dispensed, up to June, 2011 : 54,327
* Patients given free medicines, up to June, 2011 : 33,900

Arunodaya Charitable Trust (ACT) is exploring the possibility of collaborating with like minded philanthropic organization in the following areas of eye care.
(1) To sponsor mobile eye care services / camps, as explained above.
(2) To support our base hospital, for purchase of much needed equipment, etc.
(3) To sponsor sight restoring surgeries, cataract, etc.
Together, we will strive to further reach out - to the un reached

With best wishes.
